Pub Browaru Stu Mostów
It is a bit of a trek from Wrocław city centre, some four kilometres from the Rynek, but Uber gets you there for the price of a pint on the Rynek, or you could get a tram some ten stops. But frankly even walking would be well worth the effort: this place is utterly awesome.
Although the space of the brewery is pretty vast, the bar area itself is not the biggest of venues, so it’s a good idea to call ahead on busy nights to book a table. On a summer Sunday we had no problem getting a seat, but on a Friday night during winter (when the outdoor tables half of the customers favour aren’t available) might well be a different story.
WRCLW Roggenbier: excellent |
We kicked things off with a Salamander Wheat Porter, a WRCLW Roggenbier and a Salamander Pale Ale. The Wheat Porter was very much worth ordering. Not the most intense of aromas, but still interesting, roasted malts with chocolate and hickory coffee. The creamy smooth medium mouth had low carbonation and a fairly mild bitterness that strengthened slightly on the finish. It was very drinkable and hardly touched the sides. Fortunately WRCLW Roggenbier was next up and that was spectacular. It had been pretty good the day before in Kontynuacja but on tap here in the place it was born it was even better. Even more of the esters, more cloves, stronger notes of banana, noticeable citrus and a bready aroma (presumably from the rye). Excellent beer and a style to watch out for. The Salamander Pale Ale was much better than that served in other places (in Wroclaw and in Warsaw) but still a bit ‘mheh’, nothing wrong with it but certainly nothing wonderful either, especially not when compared to the two stunners next to it.

The food menu at Pub Browaru Stu Mostów isn’t long but it is interesting and the dishes reasonably priced (if you’re used to Warsaw prices). The cod looked fairly good and tasted better, while the beef cheeks looked less appealing but tasted absolutely superb. So good I ordered another 30 minutes later despite being fairly stuffed already. We paired the food with three of the beers recommended for those dishes: a WRCLW Pils with the cod and another of the Roggenbiers and another Wheat Porter for the beef, those two really both demanded a second helping. The Pils is brewed to be one of Sto Mostow’s most accessible beers, an introduction to craft beer of sorts, so it might not be aimed at you, which means you might find it rather too sweet and with almost no hops. It’s almost a bit boring to be honest, but at least here it’s unfiltered and thus better than what you’ll find elsewhere.
Roggenbier, Pils and Wheat Porter: one OK, two spot on |
To finish off we had two more stormingly good beers: an ART+ 8 Strawberry Berliner Weisse and a WRCLW Rye Russian Imperial Stout. Sto Mostów brew beers under three different labels: WRCLW, which is their label for “redefined classics” that feature only ingredients that have been used for centuries; Salamander, which are their takes on the “beer revolution” and have a wide range of malts, hops, spices and so on; ART are the beers they make in collaboration with other breweries. ART +8 was made in collaboration with the BRLO brewery from Berlin (of course) and is partly a classic Berliner Weisse, so all the refreshing tartness you’d want, but that sourness is wonderfully balanced by the sweetness of Polish strawberries which have been added to make this a cracking example of what Poles and Germans can achieve if they put their heads together.
ART+ 8 Strawberry Berliner Weisse: worth the trip to Wrocław by itself |
We’d had it the day before at Kontynuacja and been very impressed but this one knocked spots of the day before’s, much thicker and creamier and more aroma (probably due to the much higher but finer carbonation). It was one of the best beers of the weekend. Not that the Rye Russian Imperial Stout was any slouch. Thick and rich, it smelt of roasted grain, dried fruit and chocolate. The mouth was almost chewy and the flavour intense. I’m not sure that I’d want a pint of it but a small one was close to perfect. My only regret was that we needed to leave right after it. But I’ll very certainly be back: Pub Browaru Stu Mostów is my new favour bar in Wrocław.
